Bansko is a unique town of international tourist significance. Besides the beautiful Pirin and numerous natural monuments, the town is also rich of its historical regions and cultural landmarks. The remains of antique fortresses in the region of Staroto Gradishte (Sitinkale), around 4 km southeast from the town, and in the region of Yulen have been preserved. Near Staroto Gradishte (the Old Town), there are Thracian sepulchral mounds. A set of bronze medical instruments and remainders of medicines have been found near the century-old region of Dobrokyovitza (west of Bansko). There are over 150 cultural monuments in Bansko. Five of them are of national importance, including the Velyanova house, which has been turned into an architectural – ethnographic museum. It is famous, because it is the most original house in Bansko since the Revival period (the end of XVIII th – beginning of XIX th century), preserved till nowadays. The house was given from the local people to Master Velian Ognev. He decorated the house from the inside and from the outside. Its marvelous decoration turned it into a work of art. The two – storey house was built only from stone and wood, it was modern for its period. It has two connected hiding – places and 5 rooms with veranda on each floor. Special value have the murals in the “Blue room”, the wood – carving on the veranda, the geometrical and vegetative motifs in the southeast room. There is an ethnographic exhibition on the ground floor.

St.St. Theodor Tyron & Theodor Stratilat church -
The village of Dobarsko is located some 17 km away from Razlog, on the southern slope of the holy Rila mountain. According to the local legend, the first inhabitants of the place were the soldiers from the army of Tsar Samuil, who were blinded by the Byzantine ruler Basil II after the battle at Kleidion (Belasitsa) in 1014. They were on their way to the Rila monastery but could not make it to there because of the fiercely cold weather. When they arrived in the region of Dobarsko, they were amazed by the healing powers of the water that sprang and still springs in the churchyard of St. Theodor Tyron & Theodor Stratiat, which cured their eyes. The legend continues, telling that the magic waters in the yard of the church had healed the eyes of another great Bulgarian man – St. Clement Ohridski. These interesting stories are depicted in the murals inside the church, the most amazing one being the mural of Jesus Christ in a space rocket. The church was built in 1614, and was restored in 1978. It figures on UNESCO’s world heritage list.
Pirin Mountain
Pirin mountain is the second highest in Bulgaria after Rila mountain. It is situated in the southwest part of the country in a rather extended shape to the northwest and southeast between the rivers Struma and Mesta. Pirin mountain, a glorious glacial landscape of peaks and many beautiful lakes, offers some of the finest walking in Europe. Pirin has acquired an Alpine relief - rocky marble or granite peaks and cliffs, deep cirques, well shaped glacier valleys and numerous lakes. However, because of the well-expressed Mediterranean influence through the valleys of the Struma and Mesta rivers, it is the mountain with the greatest number of sunny days throughout the year and annual average temperature in the area of Vihren chalet (2000m) of -3.7C. Northern Pirin is the home of the highest peak, Vihren (2914m), of 60 others above 2500m, and of all glacial lakes (140-150 in number). It is also the place where one can find most of the region's ski resorts and hiking centers, as well as 12 chalets and 4 huts which are open for mountaineers the year-round. Because of its unique nature, in 1983 UNESCO decided to include the Pirin National Park in the list of the world's cultural and natural heritage.
National Park Rila
Rila is the highest mountain in Bulgaria. At 2925 m, Musala Peak is the highest peak in the Balkans and all of South-Eastern Europe. The Rila area has an austere alpine beauty, with stone ridges, towering peaks, deep precipices and numerous crystal-clear lakes (more than 140) and springs. The name of the mountain is thought to originate from a Thracian word signifying "rich in water". Three of the largest Bulgarian rivers spring from the mountain - the Maritza, the Iskar, and the Mesta; some of the largest tributaries of the Struma also originate here. The river valley separates the mountain into four regions. Twelve of the eighteen highest Rila peaks above 2700 m, are situated in the Eastern region. The main Balkan water shed passes through the Middle region - between the Black Sea and Aegean basin. The most alpine part is located in the Northwestern region. The Parangalitza reserve and the group of the Seven Rila Lakes are among the most attractive natural sites.
Baikushev's Pine
The Baikushev's Pine (Bulgarian: Байкушевата мура) is a coniferous tree from the species Bosnian Pine (Pinus heldreichii) situated in Pirin, southwestern Bulgaria. It is called after his discoverer the forest-guard Baikushev. It is located close to the Banderitsa refuge on the road between Bansko and Vihren refuge. The tree dates from more than 1,300 years which makes it one of the oldest in the country and contemporary of modern Bulgaria's first Khan, Asparukh. Its approximate size is: height 24 m; diameter 2,2 m; circumference 7.8m.
